AREC:
The Hamilton Amateur Radio Club (Inc.) has an active AREC section. We
have a relationship with CDEM in Hamilton and are involved providing
Safety Communications for a number of events within the greater Waikato
area.
The Hamilton Branch 12 section is a section of the nationwide AREC
network reporting to the Northern Regional Manager.

MEMBER:
Hamilton Section currently has 12 members; 6 of whom have completed the
training.
Any person wishing to join the section can make an application to the
Section Leader.
Note: Under
AREC Rules, applicants living in an area covered by another section
will be referred to that section for membership.
EQUIPMENT:
The Club owns 3 short term special purpose repeaters – two on VHF and
one on UHF. We also own 2 complete portable H.F. stations (IC-718’s),
tuners, power supplies including 2 generators and sealed lead acid
batteries.
The club also owns 4 VX-150 and 2 FT-23R handhelds for use by amateurs
on events and during emergencies.
MEETINGS:
Section meetings are held at the Clubrooms (88 Seddon Road, Hamilton)
on the 5th Wednesday
of the month. Briefings are generally always held prior to an event,
and debriefings following the event.
SPORTING EVENTS:
The Hamilton Section forms the Communications Team for a number of
Sports Events throughout the year. These include major events such as
The Kona Colville Connection – a mountain bike race in the Coromandel
area, and the Hamilton Bridge to Bridge Water-ski Classic – a series of
water-ski races on the Waikato River.
We also provide safety communications for the Vintage Car Club (Waikato Branch)
events in the local area.
We also provide operators for Rally
New Zealand and the Hawkes Bay Rally.
